Meibukan Gōjū-Ryū
Ōkami trains Okinawan karate in the Meibukan Gōjū-Ryū style – the “hard-soft style” in the lineage of Meitoku Yagi (八木明徳).
What “Meibukan” means
“Mei” means clear and pure, “Bu” combat or the ending of combat, “Kan” house. Meitoku Yagi called his Dōjō “house of the pure-minded warrior”, because the highest art is winning without fighting.
The style in brief
- Gōjū-Ryū: founded by Chōjun Miyagi (1888–1953), Naha-Te, a balance of hard and soft.
- Meibukan: lineage of Dai Sensei Meitoku Yagi (1912–2003), a direct student of Miyagi.
- Guiding principle: karate is an art of defence. Every kata begins with a block. (Principle of Meitatsu Yagi, quoted from meibukan.eu)
