About the club
Ōkami Dō Karate e.V. is a registered non-profit club in Leipzig; the DIY Dōjō was founded in 2020 in Connewitz. Training covers traditional Okinawan karate in the Meibukan Gōjū-Ryū style and more.
TRAINING
A holistic path
Ōkami Dō follows a holistic approach in the time-honoured style of Meibukan Gōjū-Ryū. Body and mind are trained together – not as opposites, but as complementary forces. Steady, mindful training creates inner harmony, and from this harmony grows true strength: a strength that carries far beyond the mat.
Lineage: Kanryo Higaonna → Chōjun Miyagi (founder of Gōjū-Ryū) → Meitoku Yagi (founder of the Meibukan) → Meitatsu Yagi → Akihito Yagi, 3rd Sōke of the Meibukan since 2026.

Karate trial training: possible at any time, no registration needed. The first four weeks serve as a mutual getting-to-know-each-other period, so that it works for both sides. Ōkami Dō reserves the right to exclude students without stating reasons.

Who can join?
Anyone can join – from age 8. Groups are divided by experience rather than age, yet deliberately mixed so that realistic training is possible.
Traditional karate is trained with full contact – and so it is at Ōkami Dō. Realistic self-defence takes years; the training takes that time.
On Okinawa, the term “Meibukan kisses” has become a euphemism for the bruises that come with training. Tiger Balm and heparin ointment are provided by the Dōjō.
Information on any costs can be found in the club statutes.
From the library
The textbook is public – for reading before and after training.

Since 2023 he has travelled to Okinawa for one month every year, training there under living legends: one month each under Zenpo Shimabukuro and James Pankiewicz, plus regular training with Dan Antonsen. After the trips in 2023, 2024 and 2025, the fourth begins in November 2026. Among other things, the annual trips to Okinawa serve as preparation for his 1st Dan examination under Akihito Yagi Sensei.
